Good. Short. Predictable. Could have been better, longer and technically sounder.

Oscars

Why doesnt anybody speak about the two short movies that are nominated for oscars that also have an Indian connection : The Final Inch and Smile Pinki.

I wanted to see them but no links in the Youtube.

Both seems to have a real portrayal of India and Indians. Not like the overly hyped Slumdog Millionaire.

I agree the movie was fun. But its just like anyother bollywood movie. I didnt see the “Wow” Factor in it. Same goes with the Music. We have heard better tracks from A R Rahman.

Vaanaram Ayiram

with 17 comments

People said its not good. I went with the expectations that it won’t be good. But i never thought it could be this worse.

First half is so torturous that the second half makes you feel that its much better relatively.

Yes. Suriya has put in the efforts. The cinematography is okay. But where is the screen play Mr.Goutham Menon?

3 romances in one movie. Cant take it. I went out twice in the first half and filled my stomach with rolls and coke. I even contemplated going home in the interval but as i had an impending lunch plan after the movie with friends i stayed back.

The title of the post is not typo. If simran can give a dialogue in the end and justify the title of the movie even i can give a punch and justify the title of the post ;)

You could even face Vaanaram Ayiram(Thousand Monkeys in Tamil) but not the movie’s first half.

And if you liked Adiye Kolluthey

listen this, its from this that the song’s riff is flicked from :

Micro Review of Multiple Movies

with 6 comments

A wednesday – Nasrudeen Shah Rocks!

Watch it just for him. And good support by Anupam Kher. A bit amateurish and predictable at times but still its better than the average Bollywood movies.

Wall – E – Not worth the hype

Good watch, but definitely not worth the IMDB top#30 number it is having at the time of writing this post.

Love at first sight is a done to death Indian movie theme.

Poi Solla Porom – Packed with a lot of laugh out loud moments.

A very good feel good movie. A bit cinematic and theatrical. No over the top romance,dance/fight sequence. Mouli is superb.

RACE- Twist ‘o’ Twist

with one comment

This is not a movie review. This is about the weird connection me,satyam, and jumbo combo have. As if the last time  tryst with jumbo combo was not enough. This time too it happened.Repeat Telecast.Much worse this time around.

Everything was fine as usual until intermission. Me and Bala decided to get something to eat.We were 7 people. So i thought from my last experience,2 jumbo combos would be sufficient for all of us.A jumbo combo is a BIG packet(or was it bucket?) of pop corn and a litre of coke.

And as murphy’s law may like it no one would prefer to eat popcorns and drink coke.So me and Bala had to finish it all by ourselves. :(

By the time i sat on the seat i spilled the popcorns on myself.I was like “Thank God,It wasn’t the coke that got spilled on me”.And God was like “Dude! Don’t thank me too early.” The coke’s cap opened all by itself and it too got spilled on me.

We went back to stall to get some tissues for cleaning the seat disguising the visit as if we had gone there to put some masala on to the pop corn.

And the rest of the movie experience was deja vu. Race against time to finish the pop corn and coke.

I would never ever buy a jumbo combo.Never./Sigh/

with 10 comments

Kadhana is a multilayered story with plots, subplots, super sub plots. The main plot is acutally flicked from Hindi Movie Judaai which is a remake of Telugu movie Subhamangalam which was remade in Tamil as Irattai Roja.So the director seems to have decided when its remade so many times it ought get the serial good TRP ratings. In case you hadn’t watched any of the above versions of the movie, here is the synopsis: the heroine swaps her husband for money with another lady who drools for her husband.Mix with this the regular Indian soap characters like an all powerful lady who is ever evil, who would go on torturing the protagonist lady,A dummy but good Father-in-law who
would sympathize with good people but will not be able to help them, you have got a power packed serial which could go on for years. As far as the main plot goes there is a twist in the story which is different from the movie version. In the movie the husband will be back to the original wife. But in this serial the wifes decide to live together along with their hubby.Ahh Indian Post-Modern Serial!

Watch at your own risk:

Serial Name: Kadhana
Language: Kannada
Timing: 8:30 to 9:00 pm
Channel: Udaya TV

Why Music in India should be seperated from movies

with 2 comments

1.Had Illayaraja monetized his works like what the western bands do, he would have bought the entire part of India below the Vindhyas.

2.People should stop the practice of referring a MSV composition and a Kannadasan lyrics as MGR song.Means the actors don’t get undue credit.

3.We shouldn’t be deceived into watching crap movies just because their songs became famous. For eg: Kadhalar Dhinam

3a.Converse of the above: We shouldn’t be listening to crap songs even if they were featured in good movies. Eg: Any good movie with Deva Music.

4.We don’t get to hear any background score and hear the five or six songs of the movie even in the official album CD, however excellent the BGM are. Read the analysis and hear the Background Score of Lagaan here

5.Plagiarism will be under control if musicians don’t have the burden to create music for some situation or create songs like some other song. The presence of some  Actors/Directors makes it mandatory for musician to create songs like item numbers,Kuthu Paatu etc. Here is a list of few songs that have been plagiarized by Indian musicians. The list includes some of the greatest names in Indian music scene.

MulHolland Dr – must watch

with one comment

If you have never heard of David Lynch or of Mulholland Dr (as i never did) ,if you have inclination towards grinding your brain as opposed to the screen writers spoon feeding everything,if you like the idea of multiple interpretations for a movie,if you have never seen a surreal movie, then the best bet is that you will love this movie. Now please dont google or read the wiki about this movie.Go get a copy of the movie and see it before you know too much about the plot or the movie.

While googling i found that this didn’t fare that well on the box office.Well, thats understandable; since the average movie goer likes plain straight forward stuff. This movie changed the way i was looking at screen writing.

Observation at Pirates -Who ever smooches dies.

with 2 comments

Me and 2 of my coleagues had gone for the Pirates of Caribbean part 3. 2 of us having not watched the earlier two parts had initial problem of having to get a grip of

the complex storyline.I was guessing for the first few scenes whether its a serious movie involving pirates like the book treasure hunt or a comedy movie(it was having some comical moments like the toe of one of the pirates coming with his hands when he was soothing it )or a magical movie where i need to suspend my disbelieve and just enjoy it.In the end it happened to belong to the final category.Since we were not getting the hang of the storyline we started making other observations.I observed that week days are bad for people who go to satyam to “also see a movie” .My other friend who didnt understand the story made his point in the middle of some serious scene that “who ever kissed the heroine got killed in the movie.First it was her english friend, then the singapore captain, then another english friend, then William, all got killed coz they smooched her”.We burst into laughter hearing this interesting observation. Then came the interval we bought two jumbo combos. After buying that only we realised that its such a large quantity that we need two more people to finish it off and the movie’s climax is very much near.We had to eat it off before the movie finishes. So when Jack Sparrow was fighting with swiftly with his sword we were eating as quiclky as we can.The climax fight of the film ended it was time all the charachters to bid farewell to Elizebeth(heroine) she was speaking with every one and came to Jack Sparrow spoke something, was about to kiss, thats when Jack refused to kiss. The Observer near me ejaculated “See he is very intelligent he doesnt want to die.”.When we came out we still had huge quantity of popcorn and coke left.I took the popcorn with me while my other observer friend took the coke with him.I was eating the popcorn all through my bike drive to a hotel and yet didnt finish it.In the end i offered it to the security person in the hotel.

Yuvan rocks in Paruthiveeran

with 3 comments

Paruthi veeran is my latest addiction.Awesome tracks by Yuvan. Its quite offbeat with only folk intruments. The songs have good lyrics too.

Tanka Dunga is my favorite.Nathaswaram solo is too good.Vuroram puliyamaram is irresistable.Ariyatha Vayasu,Iayyayo and sari kama pathani are in trade mark ilayaraja style.Son has learnt his fathers style.

Altogether a good indeginous tracks.
